It seemed almost unfair that just when things were starting to go so right back at Westbrook, his dad would go and ruin it all. Shortest Breath was no longer making himself and pretty much everybody he knew miserable. Things were looking so promising with Eli. Diego would never be able to listen to Yellow Submarine or watch Pirates of the Carribean without thinking of him. At least one good thing had come from the Loa: he had his first boyfriend. He just had to hope that something good would come of spending the week with his dad.
He shouldered his carry on and got off the plane, feeling much more rested than he should have been. After tossing and turning a few hours, he had turned to sleeping pills to get to sleep. Eli had come to his room with donuts and a breve from Supah Bucks sometime around 4am, so he only ended up getting a couple of hours of sleep. Still...he couldn't think of a better way to start the morning. Eli had given him a boost of energy and kiss before he had to leave to catch up with his mom. That kiss was still on his mind as he picked up his suitcase from baggage claim and headed outside.
Diego waited outside for his dad, leaning against pillar. His cellphone had been off since he'd boarded his plane in Houston, so he went ahead and turned it on now to check for any missed messages.
Right about that time, he felt an eerie chill fall over him. He glanced over to the left...and stared up as his dad simply appeared from the shadows.
"Let's get going. We have work to do."

The barrage of text messages in his inbox did wonders to improve his mood, especially when his dad seemed intent on making things miserable. He'd spent most of Friday hitting tours around Mexico City. When Diego asked, his dad simply said to memorize the landmarks. Today, he understood why. He had spent most of the day teleporting around the city. He'd been at it for a couple hours now, non stop...and he was wore out. He couldn't think ahead to the next point in the circuit, which was a dangerous thing. If he couldn't visualize it, he couldn't be sure if he would actually make it there. So he stopped, collapsing in the shade of the trees that butted against the Xochimilco Floating Gardens. Sweat beaded down his brow as he sat there catching his breath. Since his dad wasn't breath down his neck right at that moment, he pulled his phone out and started texting.
