Espy couldn't help but wonder what was up with Diya, but now wasn't the time for distractions. They were down one point, and they couldn't let the Trailblazers score much more if they wanted to win this game. Espy walked over to Shanna.

"We need lockdown coverage. I know you can deliver."

He bumped heads once with Derrick Cork, then once with Junebug. They weren't playing their best, but they were trying their hardest. It was just one of those days, but it wasn't over. The fourth quarter is where boys become men--or in Shannas case, women.

"This is it. They aren't just going to give it to us. Lets take it! Go Mustangs!"

FOURTH QUARTER

Mia cheered from the stands until she was hoarse. She stomped her shoes against the bleachers, and she shook her one maroon and gray pom-pom in her good arm. The band rocked a great rendition of Wooly Bully, some of the band members, tuba player included standing and rocking it from side to side.

On the third play of the quarter, Hawkins found Matt Quest open on the Blazers 22 yard line. Two plays later, they were first and goal at James Bryant’s 10. Chase Masters was set for it the second the play was called. He plowed straight through up the middle, finally being taken down at the three yard line. He stood up, clapping his hands for the team to keep the drive alive. After an incomplete pass to Jason Dumarr on second down, the Trailblazers were called for pass interference, giving Westbrook four more downs and another chance at redemption. The first pass to Quest was incomplete. The next was batted up in the air by the Trailblazer senior co-captain and appeared to be intercepted by their first-year linebacker, but he was called out of bounds. An unsuccessful running play brought up fourth down, and Hawkins brought on the field goal unit for a 19-yard attempt. The kick was blocked by the Blazers defensive back , but an offside call gave the Mustangs another chance. Frustration was seen in the faces of both teams, neither giving an inch during the tight game. Each side applied good pressure, but Cody Ward managed to get the second kick off and through the cross bars to bring the Mustangs up 26-24.

“S-U-P-E-R
That's what the Mustangs are, we’re super! Oh yeah, we’re super!”

The Blazers answered the call. They had a decent run on the kick return, getting downed by Lasseter at the 50, then completing a series of short passes down the field. Finally, the Trailblazer’s quarterback hit with a fade pass into the corner of the endzone for a 2-yard touchdown with 2:00 remaining on the clock. But James Bryant's chances of a comeback were dampened when illegal procedure was called on the receiver for exiting and then re-entering the field to catch the ball, wiping out the play. On their last down, the quarterback fired a bullet to his receiver in the end zone, but the tight end couldn’t hang on to the ball after taking a thunderous hit from Espinosa.

"Run it down!" the Coach called from the sidelines as his offence returned to the field. Hawkins nodded and kept the ball on the ground, but the Mustangs weren't finished. Masters continued to find openings in the demoralized Trailblazer defense, moving steadily downfield until Masters finally crossed the goal line with twelve seconds left on the clock. Hawkins called for the kick, the ball once again sailing wide, but it was of little consequence as the clock hit zero.

FINAL SCORE:
MUSTANGS 32
TRAILBLAZERS 24

Boom Dynamite -- GO MUSTANGS!

I hear rumors that there's a freebie deal of some sort on donuts over in Overbrook. Nothing says winning like free donuts!!!
If cheerleading was easy, they'd call it football.

Ar smirked as Diya stalked out of sight, making a mental (read, "digital") note to work up an impression of her just in case the need arose. That face. That walk. It had a reasonable chance of driving her nuts.

His smirk held as he continued shaking what his plastic (and other materials) surgeons had given him.
You got base building problems? I feel bad for you, son. I got ninety-nine problems, but a clip ain't one.

Faige was already standing from the Wolly Bully dance as the clock ran down to zero. She cheered and jumped up and down, almost knocking over her chair in the process. Her parents stood along with the Mustang supporters, arms up and cheering. She could actually hear her dad's voice in the crowd. It was a good day.... except...

Except the cheering sounded hollow without Diya cheering too. Faige glanced toward the exit where the locker rooms were. She wondered if Dee could hear the commotion from in there. Surely she could. Surely she'd come out and celebrate and smile a little... "Come on Dee.." Faige said, voice drowned out by the roar of the crowd so much that she was almost speaking to herself.

"Did we lose or win?" Roach asked his neighbor. The pot-bellied man grumbled and pointed towards the scoreboard. Roach looked at it, wrinkled his nose, and then stood up. He held up his hands, turning towards the Trailblazer fans, before letting out a hoot. "Suck, TrailFailzors!"

Brook took him by the arm as popcorn and other snacks were tossed there way. She pulled him from the bench and into the isle.

"Suck it! Suck it long and hard, biatches!" Roach continued as they made their way out of the Trailblazer's side of the stadium.

"Roach! I got nacho cheese in my wig," Brook hollered over her shoulder.

"Now who looks ridiculous?" Roach questioned as a soda slammed into the back of his head.

When Diya heard the commotion of players re-entering the locker room area, she quickly stripped and jumped in the shower. By the time Shanna entered the girls locker room - happy just to spite me, I'm sure - Diya was getting dressed and toweling dry her hair.

"I've got my own ride back to campus. Let everyone know, 'kay?" she called to Shanna as she picked up her gear and headed for the door.

"Uh, Diya?"

"BYE!" Diya yelled over her shoulder. She poked her head into the hallway - none of her teammates were there. The coast was clear. She was off.

Despite the game or perhaps due to an implicit lack of understanding of what was happening, Lark remained in good spirits - occasionally congratulating people on things that didn't make sense: home runs and try goals - for the sake of some levity. She stuck by Matt's shoulder and on the field for a change; actively watching and even cheering more and more as the game progressed.

Not a little. Not a yay, not a mere flag raise but she screamed her head off as best she could manage, jumping up and down.

You'll have to wonky-time me in. I was nowhere near a computer.

Lauren couldn't keep off her eyes off of Diya as she slung her helmet. She watched the rest of the episode with a pained expression. When Diya marched off to the locker room, Lauren started to follow, nearly missing the start of the next cheer. "Dammit," she muttered under her breath. She summoned up a fake smile and returned to her position.

"Faige, I got to handle... uh... something," Brodi said as he tossed the fife into its case. He tossed a glance back towards the new blonde, forcing a smile. No dimples. "Just make sure everyone packs up and that Jitter stays away from the concession stand."

And with that, Brodi was wading through the crowd. He knew he wasn't getting into the locker room but he was sure the hell going to be waiting in the back for Diya. He pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and waited.

After the seventh ring, he hung up and just continued along with the tide of people.

"Whoa whoa whoa I'm not ready for Jitter-duty!" Faige said, trying to lighten the situation. She just sort of gave Brodi a serious little nod and said "Go on" before turning to the band and clapping her hands once. "Alright guys! We nailed it! Call in the dogs and put out the fire, we're goin' home."
