Cadence was curious what this other path was...but whatever it was, it sounded like it would take more time than they could afford to look into. Still, at least the Jesuit had provided a solution that didn't involve Etienne letting Shortest Breath ride him. That much she was very thankful for.
She glanced over at Bronka. "So...we can bind Shortest Breath to a poppet. I don't know what we could do once we did that though..."

The Jesuit showed the rest of the students back, bidding Cadence to remain behind. Once they were alone, he took a long, appraising look at her.
"Cadence, you have to know that you are walking a very difficult line with Etienne, right? He's a good child, but he takes a long time to trust outsiders like yourself. Understand, it isn't you."
