The Bulletin

Post by Lorne Hazlewood » Thu Sep 30, 2010 9:14 pm

Lorne walked down the hall between classes trying his best not to let his sneakers squeak on the freshly buffed floor. He always hated it right after Mr. Deathrage buffed the floors. He worked hard on trying to balance walking carefully with not looking like a doof tip toeing down the hall. He took notice of the looks he was getting as he walked and decided he must not be doing a very good job.

As he rounded the corner he found a large group of students gathered around one of the bulletin boards. His ears perked up as he heard their hushed whispers.

"Are you going to do it?"

"I'm not gonna do it!"

"Five points? That could bring your grade up by a full letter!"

Intrigued he decided to investigate. He walked up to the group and pushed his way through the crowd. Hanging on the bulletin board was a large poster with four teenagers smiling and playing volleyball. Underneath it was a caption that read, "Statistically, one of these teens has an STD." Lorne furrowed his brow and read on.

"25% of teenagers in America have an STD. Westbrook Academy is working with Chiron Medical Center to encourage our students to get the facts and get tested. On October 25th Ashley Jenkins will have the equipment and facilities to administer tests to any student who is willing to take them. As an incentive any student who chooses to get tested will be given five bonus to be applied to their final grade in their choice of physical education class."

"Holy crap!" Lorne exclaimed as he finished reading it. He looked over at the student next to him and asked, "Are you gonna do it?"

"Five free points for getting poked with a needle or something. Why not?"

Arthur grinned, "Worst I've got is a case of fleas from hanging around with this one fuzzy guy." He tapped on a passing shoulder and asked its owner, "Do look itchy to you?"
You got base building problems? I feel bad for you, son. I got ninety-nine problems, but a clip ain't one.

Seth laughed, "Yeah, a little bit... what's this big crowd about?" Seth made his way to the front and looked over the poster.

"Five free points huh? I mean that's a bonus, sure, but is it worth making people wonder that you're that kid in the group of four with an STD? Man there's no way I'd be caught anywhere near that. What about you?" Seth elbowed the student next to him.

Etienne filled the hall with his low, rumbling laughter. "White man medicine to tell you you sick? No five points would be enough to get me to fall for dat trap, mon amis."
"Just uh. Don't let them scare you. We're all freaked out, but a lot of us would still sick up for you. You're still our classmate."

Trevor wanders by and stops at the sight of the huge crowd.

He reads the poster and shrugs. "Sure, I'll give it a shot. Like the fur-man says, five points is five points."

"STD? Jeeze..."

Zach shrugged, shaking his head, before moving on.

A little while later...

Zach walks back up to the sign, looking around nervously. He takes out a piece of paper and a pen, and scribbles something down really quickly.

"Five points is five points, you idiot."

He takes another quick look around as he walks off hurriedly.

Laura strode past the sign, appearing neither to notice or care what the crowd was so interested in.
---------------------------------------
Once the crowd had dispersed, Laura returned, copied the information from the sign into a small notebook, and rushed off.
