Nolan Hendricks - History Teacher

Post by Epic Scale » Fri Nov 26, 2010 2:35 pm

NAME:
Dr. Nolan Hendricks

ALIAS:
N/A

Making history come alive!

AGE:
37

HEIGHT:
6' 2"

BUILD:
Muscular and often distracting.

HOME TOWN:
Paragon City, RI

POWERS:
Dr. Hendricks can bestow the power of speech on inanimate objects. The speech is understandable no matter what the listener's native language is, and the object can speak as if endowed with normal baseline human intelligence.

APPEARANCE:
Dr. Hendricks is usually well-dressed in the classroom, though on field days he tends to wear more durable, looser clothing. Never know what might happen in the field, even if it's just a trip to the Paragon City Museum.

BIO:
Nolan Hendricks has been studying history since his powers manifested in his early teenage years. Born in a small midwest town, Nolan was ostracized as a freak. He kept up with his studies, and after gaining a doctorate in history from Paragon University, he was able to indulge in a variety of adventures sponsored by the University. He jumped at the chance to teach history at Westbrook, though he's occasionally on sabbatical while still going on the same adventures that drew him to history in the first place.

Christopher Herbert - Music Teacher

Post by Elijah Elliot » Sun Dec 26, 2010 12:40 pm

NAME:
Mr. Christopher Herbert

ALIAS:
Mimesis

"Better, but more like this."

AGE:
44

HEIGHT:
5'8"

BUILD:
A little soft around the edges.

HOME TOWN:
Gardner, MA

POWERS:
Muscle memory. After observing any body-based activity, Mr. Herbert can repeat it perfectly.

APPEARANCE:
He has a fairly relaxed demeanor and wears casual professional attire.

BIO:
At the age of 13, Chris Herbert astounded his family by perfectly reproducing one of Bruce Lee's martial arts forms after having seen it on TV. They very quickly deduced his meta ability, and Chris immediately started leveraging it to its utmost potential. Within the course of a year, he had acquired an extensive repertoire with martial arts, gymnastics, and dance. Anything he saw, he could repeat. Perfectly.

During his mid-teens, Chris became enamored with music and, with great satisfaction, discovered that his abilities extended to learning how to play instruments as well. By the time he went to college, he could competently play any of the common instruments in the woodwind, brass, and percussion families as well as the piano, guitar, and bass. He went to college in Boston, where he studied music and learned about music theory and history in addition to his natural talents with instruments.

During college, he joined with several friends to form the band Punch But Miss, where he played lead guitar. They were moderately successful in the Boston punk scene for a few years before dissolving over interpersonal conflicts. He also dabbled briefly in heroics under the alias Mimesis, leveraging his knowledge of martial arts to help keep the streets safe. However, medbadges did not exist back then, and there wasn't too much he could do about bullets, so ended up abandoning heroics and just focused on music.

After college, he joined the Paragon City Symphony Orchestra as principal oboe, his favorite instrument. Despite enjoying his position with the orchestra, he decided in his early thirties that education would be a more fulfilling vocation. He went to graduate school for music education, then began teaching high school music. When Westbrook opened, he quickly came on board.

In addition to teaching music classes, Mr. Herbert also teaches lessons for musical instruments, both in small groups and one-on-one as appropriate. He can give instruction for any instrument found in a high school band or symphony orchestra, as well as many instruments that aren't. He also gives vocal lessons (though his muscle memory does not give him any special talent there). Mr. Herbert also directs the school's band and chorus.

Mr. Herbert leads a tai chi chaun group once a week on Thursday afternoons. As needed, he also sometimes gives private instruction on gymnastics and martial arts to students whose meta abilities lend themselves to those areas.

In the classroom, Mr. Herbert tries to be mildly entertaining: he'll sometimes juggle a few piece of chalk idly while talking, or will toss a piece of chalk over his shoulder while turning to the blackboard then catch it and immediately start writing in one fluid motion. Though friendly and engaging, he also brooks little patience for students who aren't paying attention, leading to a somewhat mixed reputation among the student body.

Janice Weatherbee - School Receptionist

Post by Kai Eriksen » Fri Jan 21, 2011 6:20 pm

NAME:
Janice Weatherbee

ALIAS:
N/A

Either the sweetest godmother a kid could want or
seven feet of hulking fury.

AGE:
47

HEIGHT:
Alternately 5’2” and 7’1”.

BUILD:
Matronly. Also herculean.

HOME TOWN:
Emporia, Kansas

POWERS:
Janice has two personalities. Her normal personality is kind and sweet and hard-working. She’s an ideal receptionist and secretary in a school full of sensitive kids, even if she can be a bit easy to pull one over on. During moments of stress, anger, or fear, she sometimes channels the personality and comes to embody her long-dead ancestor, the Amazon warrior Laomache. With the help of medication and training, she is largely able to resist transforming involuntarily.

APPEARANCE:
She is a motherly sort of plump in her normal form. She tends to wear muted, conservative blouses and long skirts. When provoked, however, one may suddenly find her wearing a toga embroidered in gold thread and a crown of
silver laurel leaves.

BIO:
Janice Weatherbee (neé Castellanos) was a quiet, religious child who grew up in the town of Emporia, Kanasas. At age sixteen, her powers manifested in a nasty fight with her siblings. Following their discovery, she was kicked out of her home for fear that she would break all the legs of her three older brothers a second time.

Despite occasional brushes with the law for the uncontrolled (and largely unexplained) use of her powers, she spent the late seventies and early eighties trying to recover, complete her G.E.D., and carve out some sort of of life for herself. This became notably easier when she moved to Paragon City. She shortly met Alfred Weatherbee, a low-ranking member of M.A.G.I., who helped her understand and control her unique gifts. They later fell in love and married.

Janice has been with Westbrook as its generally competent receptionist since 2005. Students successfully lie to her about their tardiness, absenteeism, or general malfeasance thirty-five times per week on average.

Josephus Benectus Maximilian the 32nd - Magic Teacher

Post by Lorne Hazlewood » Thu Feb 10, 2011 8:26 pm

NAME:
Josephus Benectus Maximilian the 32nd

ALIAS:
N/A - goes by Joe

Not your average wizard

AGE:
45

HEIGHT:
5'10"

BUILD:
Lean

HOME TOWN:
New York, NY

POWERS:
Nearly every wizard who is anyone has heard of Josephus Benectus Maximilian, though, the numbers tend to get blurred. Joe has the ability to consult with anyone who has died in his line. While he does not have all the direct memories or powers of his ancestors he is able to consult with them at any time. Because of this he's a bit of a wild card. No one knows the full extent of his powers as he tends to down play them. Most people magic users would tend to agree that he is probably, "quite powerful."

In addition to his magical powers he has created an array of magic items which he carries with him. None of these are your traditional wands or potions. He tends to focus on every day items. For example he has a digital watch that will flash 3:17 any time the wearer lies.

APPEARANCE:
Joe shows up to work every day in a brown suit coat, a pair of blue jeans, and the same pair of olive green sneakers he has been wearing for the last five years. He has a pair of round sunglasses that are either worn, or hanging from his t-shirt. He holds for the most part a largely disheveled appearance with shirts untucked and a 3 day stubble that never seems to go away. He also has tattoos which are occasionally visible under his rolled up sleeves. He is commonly seen drinking a cup of coffee which he seems thoroughly addicted to.

BIO:
Joe has primarily been a loner in the magic world. He finds most official magical organizations to be to stuffy or steeped in tradition. He works at Westbrook for multiple reasons not the least of which being that he loves to give away the secrets to magic. He is the Penn and Teller of the actual magic world and because of this has been ostracized from most other magic users. This would be the second reason he's teaching at Westbrook.

Westbrook none the less pays him well and allows him to research and dabble in whatever he's interested in doing. He considers it a nice gig. He gets to teach and do whatever research he wants. Westbrook pays him and is wiling to help write grants to further fund his research.

Margaret Wilson - School Counselor

Post by Elijah Elliot » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:40 pm

NAME:
Margaret Wilson

School Counselor

AGE:
53

HEIGHT:
5’ 3”

BUILD:
Frumpy, with a dash of dumpy

HOME TOWN:
Minneapolis, Minnesota

POWERS:
Ms. Wilson has no metahuman abilities.

APPEARANCE:
Ms. Wilson dresses fairly plainly, generally wearing a blouse with slacks, often with a cardigan. She has long brown hair, which she generally leaves loose.

BIO:
Marge’s life has been strongly defined by her brother, Dennis. In his early teenage years, Dennis began acting out, becoming difficult, argumentative, and even destructive. His bad behavior resulted in some time spent in juvie, not to mention a lot of stress for the family.

Marge graduated high school and attended a local community college, but her first semester was cut short by tragedy: her brother, then a high school senior, had committed suicide. The autopsy that followed revealed that, unbeknownst to anyone, Dennis had actually been a mutant. At her parents’ insistence, further investigation was done into his mutation, which revealed that he had some form of psychic abilities, likely empathic in nature. The metahuman specialist who evaluated his background concluded that his untrained empathic abilities had almost certainly been the primary factor in his suicide.

This devastated Marge, and she dropped out of community college to work in a local supermarket for a few years. She finally went back to school to study metahuman psychology in hopes of helping other kids work through the kinds of issues her brother never had any help with.

Marge Wilson attended the same college as Louis Herrera. Though Louis was a few years older than her, the two ended up forming a strong friendship. When he started looking for people to staff the newly opened Westbrook Academy, Ms. Wilson was Herrera’s first choice to serve as the school’s counselor. She gladly accepted the position.

Ms. Wilson has a warm, welcoming presence that some might call motherly. She is easy to talk to and is clearly invested in the lives of Westbrook’s students.

Coach Armstrong- Athletics, Boys PE

Post by Flicker » Tue May 17, 2011 11:20 am

NAME:
Terrell James (TJ) Armstrong

ALIAS:
Lockdown

Drop and give me infinity

AGE:
48

HEIGHT:
5'11

BUILD:
athletic, slightly muscular

HOME TOWN:
Wilmington Delaware

POWERS:
The ability to manipulate gravity and gravitational interactions.

APPEARANCE:
Coach Armstrong could be considered an imposing looking PE teacher/coach; He commands, demands, and for the most part gets respect. He’s always in shorts, sweat pants or track pants with a tee shirt or zip up sweat shirt. “Dressing up” generally involves slacks and a polo. He’s rarely without his whistle. He’s dark skinned and bald, usually wears darkened sunglasses and almost never wears caps of any kind, even in winter. Sometimes he sports a moustache.

BIO:
TJ Armstrong grew up around sports. He’s played minor league baseball, and in college was active in football, track, and is an accomplished bowler. He plays ultimate Frisbee in an over 30 league in Paragon and fancies himself a golfer.

As a child, TJ dreamed of being a professional athlete. His dream was cut short with a traumatic knee injury. No one is exactly sure why, but his MRI awakened a dormant mutation allowing Armstrong to manipulate gravity. Shortly after, he moved to Paragon to learn more about his mutation as well as get it under control, assisted by scientists from G.I.F.T. During this time, Armstrong returned to college obtaining his masters in education with an emphasis on physical education.

He generally tries to push his students and will not accept any half-hearted or half-assed performances. Previous students have described him as tough but fair - no one just skates by in his class. He's not above a little good-natured negative reinforcement. His mutation allows him to manipulate gravity, meaning more than one student has collided with the sleds only to realize that they're completely unmovable, more than one ball player has gotten a surprise when they've gone to pick up a baseball, and his favorite expression is "Just trying to keep you on your toes." Some say his inability to compete has made him bitter, others say he doesn't want students to take what they have for granted. He says you should worry less about his motivations, and more about your sorry ass performance.

He’s been at Westbrook almost since its inception, and still occasionally patrols under his hero name - Lockdown.
If cheerleading was easy, they'd call it football.

Kerry Campbell - Girls PE

Post by Flicker » Tue May 17, 2011 12:27 pm

NAME:
Kerry Campbell

Let's Get Physical... Education

AGE:
26

HEIGHT:
5'1

BUILD:
toned

HOME TOWN:
Talos Island, Paragon

POWERS:
No real 'powers' but obviously a mutant

APPEARANCE:
She’s self-described as “pink-as-bubblegum, with a tail to boot.” She also has unusual floppy ears. While working, she's near always in her gym 'uniform' of grey shorts or sweats and a white shirt plus sneakers. Outside of that Kerry, is more apt to wear clothing from The Limited or Abercrombie and Fitch, whatever is trendy that she can afford.

BIO:
Kerry Campbell was born and raised in Paragon, where her unusual appearance was not regarded as that much of an oddity. She knew early on that she wanted to be an educator, and that she would make Paragon her home. She is an avid rock and mountain climber, and was very involved in both field hockey and Lacrosse in college. Her love of the outdoors/athletics is what inspired her to major in physical education, with a minor in the romance languages. She also enjoys cardio training and zumba classes at Darwin’s Gym in Talos, which specializes in meta-human fitness.

Coach Kerry is described as having a sweet disposition. She’s not one to bark at her students or athletes, but more of a genuine motivator. She believes in all of her students, and does her best to get them to believe in themselves as well.

Outside of school, though she'd never admit it to her students, she's been on more Paragon pub crawls than she'd care to admit. She enjoys her social life and has been engaged to the same undisclosed hero for the past 3 years.
If cheerleading was easy, they'd call it football.

Rai Tseng - Psionic Teacher

Post by Roach Copeland » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:36 pm

NAME:
Rai Tseng

ALIAS:
None

A touch of seventies rebellion mixed with a disciplined spirit.

AGE:
72

HEIGHT:
5'6

BUILD:
Thin with a touch of a belly developing.

HOME TOWN:
San Diego, California

POWERS:
Rai Tseng is a powerful telepath and telekinetic with a real gift for altering the short term memory of subjects.

APPEARANCE:
Rai's age hasn't stopped him from trying his best to connect to the newest generation of teenagers... even if he always seems to be a decade behind. Instead of wearing more traditional garb to school like most teachers, Rai feels more comfortable in his 'custom-made' tie-dyed tie along with his 'cool-man' sunglasses. If he has a care about his receding white hair, he doesn't show it, even going to the length of occasionally drawing a set of eyes up on his bald spot ("so I can watch you when I am tying my shoe").

Many could describe Rai as goofy. He certainly enjoys acting the part. As Rai has told people when they ask about his appearance and attitude, he'd rather make people laugh than make them worry.

BIO:
Rai Tseng had the unfortunate luck to be a minority superhero during the reign of the 'Might for Right' Act. A son of Chinese Immigrants, Rai was discovered to be a powerful 'asset' at a young age and thus was given the 'best education the US government could provide'. Boarding schools, training, and eventually field assignments.

It was at the age of twenty that Rai finally lost his urge to be an 'asset'. After hearing news of a friend's death who had been drafted due to the 'Might for Right' Act, Rai felt that he needed something more in life than 'duty to one's country'. And after searching, he found Buddhism. While this didn't free him from his obligation to the country, it allowed him to start asking questions about the morality of such obligation.

Rai ended up fighting against the 'Might for Right' Act, and when his fellow heroes won their freedom from serving their country in 1967, Rai did the unexpected. He gave up heroing all together. He enrolled in college, got a Philosophy degree (after a solid six years of 'cruising through college') and married a hero known as Honey Bee.

Rai had made many connections with heroes during his earlier years and thus had many opportunities to assist them when they came to ask. For a while, he was a private contractor, then spent a year working for the government (his own choice this time) before finally settling into the role of assisting psionics with their abilities.

Rai Tseng was friends with William Westbrook and gladly took the position as the Psionic Instructor at Westbrook Academy. While he appears to be easy going (and a touch goofy with his fascination with the 70's), the faculty will attest that he has a fire for teaching and even more so for making his students question the rules.

Martin Druce - FBSA

Post by Mister Druce » Tue Sep 06, 2011 2:49 pm

NAME:
Special Agent Martin Druce, FBSA

ALIAS:
Supercharge

Information is the single greatest weapon you can have at your disposal…

AGE:
56

HEIGHT:
6’4”

BUILD:
muscular and athletic

HOME TOWN:
Arnette, Texas

POWERS:
manipulates and projects electrical and other forms of energy

APPEARANCE:
Mister Druce appears to be a healthy and powerfully built caucasian male in his late twenties. He has thick blond hair, pale blue eyes, and chiseled handsome features. He usually wears a casual sport jacket and khakis around the school, but swaps to darker, more formal suits at his regular job. His expression is always serious and his voice is deep with a hint of a Texan accent.

BIO:
Martin Druce grew up in a small town in East Texas with dreams of one day becoming a Texas Ranger. When his mutation kicked in at the age of 13 he realized he could be something more. He immediately started a rigorous training program to ensure that he’d be in the best possible shape when he was old enough to serve as a Hero. In 1972, at the age of 17, he took the name Supercharge and began patrolling the streets of Dallas and Fort Worth.

By the end of the seventies, Supercharge was a well known Hero up and down the west coast. While always staying within the law, he developed a bit of a reputation as a maverick anti-establishment type. He was very popular with the radical college and Hollywood crowds and became known as something of a ladies’ man.

By the time the nineties rolled around, Martin realized he was not aging as other people did. Partly in the interests of studying this phenomenon and partly from a desire to get away from the increasingly dark world of crime-fighting, he took a sabbatical from Hero work and went back to school. He studied genetics, metahuman history, law, law enforcement, and education. The experience changed his outlook and attitude significantly. When he returned to Heroing at the end of the decade, he did so as an ally of the establishment.

Druce’s career as Supercharge came to an end during the first Rikti War. The details are classified, but it is known that he suffered a major injury while working with a government covert operations team. While the physical damage was minor, the injury had a drastic effect on his mutation, severely limiting his ability to maintain high energy levels.

Following the war, Martin went to work for the FBSA. He began as a field agent, then a dispatcher, and then finally, putting his degree in education to work, was assigned to the new training and education facility in Overbrook. He now teaches classes in Metahuman Law Enforcement at Rhode Island State University and the Westbrook Academy.

NOTE: Martin Druce no longer teaches at the Westbrook Academy. He is officially listed as “missing” and his current whereabouts are unknown.

Clara Borges - FBSA Crime Fighting Instructor

Post by Lorne Hazlewood » Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:34 pm

NAME:
Clara Borges

ALIAS:
N/A

Crime Fighting Teacher - Hard Ass

AGE:
38

HEIGHT:
5'7"

BUILD:
Athletic

HOME TOWN:
Steel Canyon, Paragon City

POWERS:
Clara has no powers. She can stand toe to toe with many metas using her fighting prowess and wits.

APPEARANCE:
Clara has short blonde hair, green eyes and an athletic build. She is always well dressed when she is teaching class.

BIO:
Clara Borges is in her late 30's. She's been an FBSA agent for about 9 years, having prior service in the PPD. She has no meta abilities of her own, however she grew up in Steel Canyon in the shadow of her meta parents and older brother. After high school, she briefly considered signing up with military, however she felt she could best serve her community at home with the PPD. Borges quickly rose through the ranks specializing in crimes involving meta-humans, eventually earning a degree in criminal justice and reaching detective status when her application to the FBSA was finally approved. She's spent half her time in the field, and half behind a desk - accepting any task put in her direction. Her dedication and willingness to put in long hours has helped her collar many high profile criminals, but Borges isn't in the field for the accolades. When the FBSA started looking for volunteers to assist teaching young metas, Borges didn't hesitate to volunteer. Her reasoning is twofold. First and foremost - show meta-powered youth they can make a difference no matter what their ability. Second, she holds a masters degree in criminal psychology and is working on her doctorate in Metahuman Criminolgy.

As a teacher - she pushes her students hard, because she has pushed hard herself her entire life. The only way to realize your full potential is to push yourself to the point of failure. Students are sure to hate her exams. She makes full use of the training exercises, assigns homework every night, and she's not tolerant of students who don't behave and pay attention.
