NAME:
Lauren Lombardi
ALIAS:
Crossfire
Daredevil rising to the challenge of a fresh start
AGE:
17
GRADE:
Junior
HEIGHT:
5’4”
BUILD:
Athletic
HOME TOWN:
Manchester, New Hampshire
POWERS:
Lauren has two seemingly random and disparate mutations giving her the dual powers of super strength and limited fire manipulation. She has only minor problems controlling her fire powers which allow her to sheathe herself in defensive flames at will. Her strength is more difficult to control and tends to manifest in one of two ways: either with great effort (think David Dunn, played by Bruce Willis, lifting weights in Unbreakable) or when least expected.
APPEARANCE:
Lauren has the shape and grace of a young woman who has spent nearly her entire life practicing figure skating. She is generally fashionable, sporting the latest trends or brands from the hottest stores. On first impression, she may try to be nice but will probably come off as a bit aloof.
BIO:
Lauren is the only child of an affluent couple from Manchester, New Hampshire. Growing up, she wanted for nothing. When she took to ice skating and then figure skating at a young age, her parents built a private skating rink for her with all of the training equipment a budding figure skater would need. From then on, much of her life consisted of little more than training and private tutors. Lauren became a well-known name in the figure skating world, taking top spots in several competitions. The highlight of her career was competing in the 2010 World Junior Figure Skating Championships.
As she continued to practice, Lauren and her trainer Kurtis gradually became aware of a noticeable increase in Lauren’s strength. Strenuous tasks didn’t seem like they came any easier, but she was able to push well beyond previous limits. When they tested those limits with a basic squat, they found that Lauren could lift the full weight available in her gym. After a lengthy discussion with her parents, Lauren and Kurtis decided to write the ISU for an opinion on whether or not Lauren could and should continue competing. They worked on the letter on and off over the next few weeks. When Lauren’s second mutation manifested, the point became moot.
Lauren began to experience “hot flashes” when she was exposed to the cold, including when she went out onto the ice. Her doctor was called, and an appointment was scheduled, but Lauren otherwise felt fine. Being stubborn, she tried to continue her training, but she found that the ice didn’t feel right. On closer inspection Kurtis noticed that the ice was melting around the blades of Lauren’s skates. Lauren’s hot flashes were heating the metal to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
The particulars of Lauren’s mutations were explored over the next month. When it became obvious that those mutations spelled the end of Lauren’s career as a figure skater, she took it as a new challenge. She and her parents set out to chart a new course for her life, and in so doing, they discovered the Westbrook Academy.
