Find Your (Football) Niche ((Open))

((If you want to be one of the struggling kids at practice who gets better and shows progress, this might be something to look at!))

Espy scanned the line. Practice was over, but he gathered a few of the guys that he thought were on the verge of giving up. He wasn’t going to go chasing after guys who didn’t want it, but the fact that these guys stayed after practice meant that these guys really wanted to get better, even if it meant getting some help from the new kid. These were the kinds of kids he wanted on the team.

“Alright. So, you’ve guys all been worn out enough by Coach. I’ll be holding these sessions ever day after open practice, and between our two-a-days.”

Some of the guys whispered to each other. Nobody really knew much about Espy, only that he was one of the hardest workers at practice. He never got tired, or, if he did, he never crouched or hunched over to show it. He never complained when coach added some pushups or laps, and the smile was never wiped off of his face. Some thought he loved football a little too much, and others thought he was just a showoff.

“Now, these practices are going to help you decide which positions you’d be best for, and which positions you’d want to go for. I’m not here to make your decisions for you, I just wanna see what we’re workin’ with, and make suggestions.”

He scanned the group again. There were some tall kids, some short ones. He remembered a few of their performances in practice. He was pleasantly surprised with their overall athleticism.

“Well, alright, lets start with the basics of pass coverage and receiving. I’m going to need a volunteer."
