Molly wheeled Jacquelin into the infirmary. "It looks like you'll have company this time, Jacquelin."
The girl in the infirmary bed next to the one Molly helped Jacquelin get comfortably in, turned to see who this new comer. Frail, bone-thin, Jacquelin looked like a stiff breeze could tear her apart. She was completely bald, to the point where she lacked even eyebrows, and her skin had that translucent quality of the very ill.
Jacquelin turned and smiled her 10,000 Watt smile to the red head in the next bed. "Hey, roomie. We're a pair, aren't we?"
Molly and Nurse Jenkins listened to the two girls talking. "Jacquelin seems to be cheering Cadence up a bit. That's good."
Molly smiled, "She has that effect on people. I tell you, what she's been through, with the cancer, and the insurance company refusing to pay for her treatments, that attitude you're seeing kept her family together."
"You really admire her, don't you?"
"She's a remarkable girl."
"How long have you been working with her?"
Molly went to the locked medical refrigerator that came with the pair when Jacquelin started at Westbrook. It had the kind of security usually reserved for military research, which always made Nurse Jenkins a little nervous. She had be reassured, both by Molly Matthews and by Mr. Herrera that nothing dangerous was being kept inside.
Molly punched in her code, and let the lock scan her retina. The refrigerator dispensed one IV bag, which Molly took and started preparing.
"Can I help you with that Molly?"
Molly smiled, "Sorry, Ashley. The treatment is still experimental, so only authorized hands can touch. I know this part is as simple as hanging any other bag, but, well, I hope you understand."
Nurse Jenkins nodded. "I do. Tell you what. I'll set up the hangers for you."
Molly smiled and laughed. "That, I think, you can do. Sometimes I feel like I'm living by some obscure rulebook. There are parts of it that seem arbitrary."
Jenkins set up the hanger, and Molly came in to hang the bag as Jacquelin spoke easily with her roommate.
"At first I thought that guy you're dating was totally creepy. But he seems really sweet."
Molly hung the IV bag, clearly marked with a distinct logo.
