PLEASE READ: Course change announcement

Post by Mister Druce » Mon May 02, 2011 10:26 am

The following announcement has been e-mailed to every student. It also appears on the school website and has been posted on bulletin boards throughout campus:

Effective with the beginning of the Summer 2011 term, the following courses have been cancelled:

Introduction to Criminology
Introduction to Metahuman Law

In their place we are offering a new course: Introduction to Metahuman Crime Fighting. The new course combines material from both cancelled courses with a new focus on the practical applications of metahuman abilities and their role in modern criminology.

The instructor for Introduction to Metahuman Crime Fighting will be Martin Druce, a former FBSA operative with years of service in the field. The Westbrook Academy is pleased to welcome Mister Druce to our family and hope that our students will benefit from his years of experience and veteran insight.

Please note that due to recent regulatory changes at the FBSA, this course is now mandatory for any student wishing to apply for or retain an existing Hero License.

Etienne frowned as he read the announcement on the bulletin board. Having a hero license let him do what he had always done back home, follow the Loa, and help them right the wrongs they perceived. He never considered it crime fighting, or really being a hero. As a mule, following the Loa was his purpose, his destiny, his doom. Now, he would be forced to work with the very agency who had, in the past, tried to stamp out the Houghan way. Sure that was before any outsider understood that is had little to do with soul stealing and black magic, but still...

Simon walked by, seeing Etienne frown at the board. "Oh, hey, roomie. I see you saw the announcement."

"Everyone seen dis already, mon ami?"

"Sure, ET. Didn't you read the... Nevermind. We all got an email about it last night."

"E-missive.'

"What?"

"Mail be what you do. A missive be de letter dat you send."

Simon smiled and rolled his eyes. "Sure, man. You don't look happy about it."

"Just anoder ting de White Man got to do to tink dey in control."

"What do you mean, ET?"

"I ain't fight no crime, mon ami. De Loa ask me for help, and I help dem right de world."

"I doubt the FBSA is going to recognize that distinction. You might as well take the class."

Etienne nodded, but clenched his jaw. Simon saw the fear, the resentment, the anger in his eyes, but didn't know what do say.
"Just uh. Don't let them scare you. We're all freaked out, but a lot of us would still sick up for you. You're still our classmate."

Lorne plopped down sleepily at his desk still not quite awake. He rapped the bottom of his mouse with his knuckles sending it moving forward a couple of inches to wake up his computer. The screen flickered on and he began his morning routine of forums, aggregators, and e-mail checking. His eyes opened a little wider and his ears perked up as he read the e-mail announcement. A slow smile spread across his lips. This could be cool. This could be really cool.

Donovan's body sat motionless in the library in front of his personal laptop. Even though his hands didn't move across the keyboard or touch the mouse, the screen flashed and moved as if it had a mind of it's own. Because it did. Donovan mind-surfed the internet, as he usually did when he was bored, idly checking news sites and other points of interest, when an email notice caught his attention.

Flipping over from the internet to his email, he took in the information. Instantly, he was out of the computer and back in his body. Blinking a few times to acclimate his eyes to sudden sight again, he pushed his glasses back and re-read the email.

"Huh." Donovan commented to himself, "That makes sense." With a shrug, his body went motionless again as he re-entered the internet.

Brooks new drone skipped down the hallway. Just having a face that could smirk at people was reward enough but this new drone was awesome. Noticing a few students huddled around a bulletin board she quickly went over to check out what they were looking at.

OooOOooooooO! She cooed as she read the posting. This will be fun!

Cady was in the infirmary (still) reading comic books when the alert came up on her phone, indicating she had an email. She set her comic book down a little reluctantly and reached for it. She glanced the notice over a couple times before setting her phone down once more. She was familiar with courses like this. Evolution-X had similar classes set up, along with the training sessions they held to teach young mutants to use their powers responsibly. Of course, the class had been geared more towards making sure the students understood their rights as metahumans, to prevent them from acting in a manner that would lead to scrutiny from law enforcement. Cadence just assumed that this course would be similar. They would probably teach the students what sorts of things they could or couldn't do on patrol, or something like that.

She picked her comic book back up and went back to the panel she had last been reading. She didn't even give the matter another thought.

Milo read the text from his mother that told him to read the email. Then Milo read the email. Then Milo finished clearing the monsters and mages out of the cave.
