As an example of course content, Introduction to Fire Abilties covers such material as: first aid for burns; how flammable or inflammable different kinds of things are; what to do if a fire gets out of control; hazards involved with burning specific kinds of things (such as toxic fumes); fire code laws; impact of fire on things such as building structure integrity; how to counter fire-based abilities; basic principles of fire, heat, and thermodynamics. Other courses have similar scopes. ))

Students may also take (and may be required to take, depending on their level of control) Applied Metahuman Abilities. This course is offered on a trimester basis and may be taken as many times as a student wishes. The course provides one-on-one or small-group instruction scheduled based on the students’ needs rather than using a fixed five-day-a-week course schedule. The student will be offered instruction on areas such as:
- how to not use their powers
- how to use their powers at will
- honing their skills with their powers
- finding the upper and lower bounds of their powers
- possibly learning to push beyond their upper and lower bounds
- learning to use their powers at reduced strength
- learning non-obvious uses for their powers
- learning fine control and tight power control
This instruction is also available on an as-needed basis to all students, even students who may not have enrolled in the course. Westbrook places a high priority on teaching its students how to master their powers and will arrange to provide instruction to any student upon request.
